Description
A complex abstract design overlaid on a human face creates a mysterious and intricate visual. The face appears to be peering through a chaotic network of quilted lines and patterns, generating a sense of depth and intensity.
This image portrays a quilt and inspired by writer Lottie Grimke. (1837-1914) Quilts played a significant role during the Civil War, and Lottie Grimke was a champion of the Underground Railroad. Lottie preserved in her journals a history of violence upon fugitive slaves. She was also the first black teacher of white students in Massachusetts.
